My name is Ava Sharon, and I am a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying Political Science and Journalism. I also work as a photo editor at The Daily Tar Heel.
I was born in Colorado but grew up in Raleigh, N.C., with my mom and sister. From fifth grade to senior year, I swam competitively for New Wave Swim Team and the Marlins of Raleigh. I also swam for the Oak Park Swim Team during the summers and coached in 2023 and 2024.
I started photography during my senior year of high school when I joined my school’s yearbook staff. I joined The Daily Tar Heel as a photo staffer in 2023, and I have since worked as an assistant photo editor, summer photo editor, and deputy photo editor. I will serve as the photo editor for my senior year, starting this fall.
During my time at UNC, I have also been involved in the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity and the UNC Young Democrats.
I am a people person and hope to pursue a career that allows me to connect with others.
